Halloween: Nerd Alert

Halloween is just around the corner (aka tomorrow) so this past week I dressed up as nerd for work. I put on my suspenders and headed off to work. When I got there I noticed that no one commented on my costume. Finally I asked someone, do you like my costume? A co-worker of mine looked at me and said hey you look really trendy. I realized that I hadn't put on my glasses and when I did he said "oh you are a nerd". So apparently wearing this outfit didn't make me look much like a nerd but a trendy hipster. Truth be told I probably would wear this outfit on a regular, probably rolling down the jeans and losing the suspenders. I have been a nerd before and its one of my favourite costumes, because I will use any excuse to wear glasses. What you are going to be for Halloween?

Monday's Quote

Monday's Quote: "Be so happy that when others look at you they become happy too."

Hope you all had a great weekend! I was a bit under the weather this weekend so I spent part of my weekend catching up on some sleep. (not that I am complaining, I love sleeping!) Here is a picture of a beautiful sunset I got to witness in Pentiction this summer. You can also catch-up on my Pentiction posts in part 1part 2 and part 3. Stay tuned this week for not 1 but possibly 2 Halloween costumes on the blog.

While in Chile I got to attend La Pampilla, the biggest fonda (festival) in all of the country. This year because of the way the Independence holiday fell on the calendar, Chilean people got the whole week off. Which meant that there were even more celebrations filled with food, music, dancing, rodeo's and much more. As soon as I stepped out of the car I was welcomed by the lovely smell of barbecue, and thousands of people everywhere that had build their own campsites for their week stay. This fonda had a huge merchandise market that you could probably find anything you needed to buy. (It's funny because I bought Peruvian sweaters here) It was definitely a great evening browsing through the market, listening to Chilean music, seeing all the delicious food and watching people celebrate.

Book: Where we belong

In the midst of shopping in the States a few months ago I came across the latest Emily Griffin book, Where we belong. I have loved Emily Griffin books since I first read Something Borrowed and then Something Blue. As soon as I get a hold of one of her books I hungrily read through her books in the matter of 2 or 3 days. Her style of writing makes you feel so involved in the characters that you just NEED to know what is going to happen next.

Where we belong is a story about Marian Caldwell giving up her child to adoption in her high school days. Her birth daughter Kirby is now 18 and comes to find out who her birthparents are. As soon as Kirby arrives at Marian's doorstep, both their worlds are forever shaken. There is a secret that Marian has been keeping for the past 18 years, which she will now have to confront. Through a painful, exciting and beautiful journey together, will Marian and Kirby find what they are missing in each others lives? Guess you will have to read it and find out.

Favourite Quotes:
"College would usurp these memories-and our experiences there would change us, starting us down permanent paths toward adulthood. We would decide who we were, what we were going to become. We were hurling toward something bigger and better."

"I didn't know him at all-and then he became my whole world."

"Look on the bright side. Be grateful for what you have. Count your blessings. Optimism is the foundation of courage."

"Hearts and thoughts they fade away."

"The catch of your life is not the same thing as the love of your life. Be careful of that subtle but crucial distinction."

"It's about wanting something real-even if it's messy and complicated."

If you have read the book I would love to hear what you thought of it.

Monday's Quote

Monday's Quote: "I am going to make everything around me beautiful, that will be my life." Elise del Wolfe

This is a picture I took of the beautiful scenery in Chile.
Look out for a new Chile post this week.
Thanks for reading and have a great Monday!

Top: H&M; Bag: Store in New York; Pants: Sirens; Bracelets: Flea Market in India; Shoes: Aldo
There are few trends that I embrace into my wardrobe and peplum is one of them. Peplum has been a huge trend in the last few seasons with peplum tops and dresses springing up in every store. Yet to find a peplum top in Vancouver was a little bit harder than I expected. Then on a quick walk through H&M I spotted this loose fitting peplum top. It's great because the fit keeps my outfit looking casual, while if I belt it up I can turn it into more of a fashion forward ensemble.

Richmond Night Market

Every summer the biggest buzz in Richmond is the Richmond Night Market. This year it was so big that they had two locations hosting entertainment, food stalls, electronics, clothing and accessories. So I had to make a trip down to stock up on all the cheap electronic gadgets I needed, and maybe try something chocolatey deep fried haha. Actually in the end I didn't end up trying anything deep fried but the European Pastries below were delicious.  The Richmond Night Market is a great spot to hang out with friends trying different types of food, browse through some jewellery and see if you can bargain with the vendor for some good deals.

Ps: I ended up leaving there with a super cute vintage alarm clock that I love, but my sister hates to hear in the mornings haha!

It's a cute toothbrush holder

Monday Quote

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning how to dance in the rain."

As weather in Vancouver continues to rain, I thought this quote would be quite fitting.

Yellow Lace

Jacket: Forever 21; Romper: Delia's; Belt: Dynamite; Shoes: Costa Blanca
Fall may have arrived in Vancouver, but as you can tell the I am still holding on to the last bits of warmth and sunshine that we have been having here. Rompers are probably one of my favourite items to wear in the summer because it is comfortable and can be worn with skirts. Which is why I was surprised that this was the first and only romper that I bought this summer. I paired this romper with a fall jacket and a cute belt and I was ready to head out to get some ice-cream.

DIY: Weaving goals

When we we younger, pretty much all of us did an art project that involved making the weaving mat. So I decided to put a bit of a spin on that project and draw out one of my goals in the future. It doesn't have to be something serious, maybe it is something that you want to accomplish, check off your bucket list or just get out into the world and do. What better way to commit yourself to that goal than drawing it out in crayon! After you finish your picture you just cut up, add another colourful construction paper and start weaving. If you don't know this weaving technique I keep speaking about, check it out here. This project allows you to remind yourself about a fun goal you have set, yet keeps a bit of secrecy if you don't want others to find out what it is.

Berry Life

Going to Playland!
Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope all my Canadians had a great Thanksgiving weekend, filled with lots of great food. The sun was shining this weekend in Vancouver and we even had warm temperatures that felt like it was summer in October. (Which is kind of shocking weather in Vancouver, but I am not complaining) The weather this weekend got me reminiscing about all my fun summer adventures, so here are some pictures to recap my summer. You can also check out more of my latest pictures on my Facebook page and by following me on Twitter

Having a water balloon fight
Eating lots of hotdogs and bbq
Popping that popcorn
Bowling at Lois Lanes, where I got my first strike!
