Berry Life

Finger painting :)
The last couple of weeks have been busy but still a lot of fun, and this weekend just topped it off. Friday was a super great and lucky day, starting off with getting my Class 4 license (newest bus driver) and having some out of town guests filling my house with lots of laughter. I also saw The Dark Knight Rises (the best movie ever) on the opening day. A couple of my friends had bought advance tickets and had asked if I wanted one, I said no because I knew I would be working that night. To my good luck I got off early and in a last minute plan decided to go down to the movies with them, with no physical ticket in my hand. Five minutes before the show I bought my ticket, taking the last seat in the theatre which was really close to where my friends were sitting and it was an amazing seat. So much so that one of my friends with his pre-bought ticket wanted to switch seats with me haha! With all this good luck coming my way I think I should go buy a lottery ticket. But until I win the big bucks, here are some pictures from my berry capturing what has been going on in my life lately.

Girls Night and Magic Mike

Got my Class 4!

Australian Zoo Part 1

On my recent trip to Australia I was super excited to go to the zoo. I wanted to see the kangaroo's, dingo's, tropical birds that I had heard so much about and my favourite, the koala. It was a hot and sunny day when we went to Melbourne Zoo and guess what I learned pretty quick, most of the australian animals are nocturnal and lazy. So instead of seeing kangaroos jumping around, I saw them lazing around haha. None the less we still saw an amazing bird show, visited an animal hospital and learned all about the australian animals. Here are some of my favourite pictures from the zoo.

This lovely turtle (that I named Myrtel after my sister's favourite childhood stuffed turtle) was recovering after a car
hit him.

Look at the wing span on this bird, and it was coming right at me
Lazy kangaroo's chilling in the background
All I could think about when I saw the Dingo's was "The Dingo ate my baby!" haha

Monday Quote

Hope you all had a great weekend. My weekend was quite lazy and relaxed which I needed after a couple of days where I worked for 14 hours. Sometimes is nice to just chill at home, watch movies and get organized for the week ahead. How did you spend your weekend?

DIY: Bedside Tray

Frame that I made here, used shot glasses as a vase for my favourite flowers lillies and used a little tray to place jewellery at the end of the day.

I saw this cool bedside tray here and thought it would be a great addition to add to a side table. But paying $124 for a tray did not sound like a wise idea to me so I decided to make my own. I found my tray at a garage sale for $4 *happy dance* and as you can tell from the pictures below it was probably owned by a 5 year old girl.  The total cost of my project was $5.50 and I can now use the $118.50 that I saved on my next trip. Here is how I  update my tray from disney princesses to modern day chic.
My Inspiration

1. Here is what the tray looked like when I started. I took off all the side stickers and cleaned the tray.

2. Next I put on two coats of paint that was left over from when we painted my room. I left the disney princesses sticker because every girl wants to be a princess.

3. Measured out contact paper (I got a whole roll from the dollar store) for the inside of the tray. This  paper has a sticky side on the back so all you have to do is peel off the protective paper and stick.

4. Peeled of the protective contact paper lining and slowly stuck it to the inside of the tray.

Book: Best Friends Forever

Addie and Valerie became best friends the minute Valerie moves into the house beside Addie. They are inseparable until a heartbreaking betrayal from Valerie, during their high school days. Years go by until Valerie shows up at Addie's door in the middle of the night with blood on her jacket, looking for the comfort of an old best friend. Now Addie will have to decide, if she will be able to open up welcome her old friend back into her life again, and help Valerie get out of the crazy mess she has gotten into.
What I loved about this book is seeing how two best friends, who haven't talked in years come together during a tough time. Isn't it great to have a friend that you have known from childhood? You grow up together and get to share all the adventures you went through when you were younger.

My favourite quotes were:

"I remember the feeling of floating in the water with my best friend beside me, underneath that beautiful sky. It was the best time of my life."

"Vehicular manslaughter, then baked goods."

"Goodnight to the back, good night to the front."

"I want you to have everything you want. You're my best friend."

Butta la pasta

I was in the mood for some homemade pasta after watching Rachel Ray (a cooking tv host). But since I came at the end of the episode, all I was left with was a craving for pasta with no recipe. So I went to google and found this delicious recipe that I just had to try. I made a couple of substitutions like the type of pasta, used garlic sausage instead of chicken, added cayenne pepper instead of crushed red pepper and didn't add the peas. Actually, if you think about it I pretty much created my own pasta by the end of all my substitutions.

Ps: "Butta la pasta" is a phrase said in Italian meaning throw in the pasta.

DIY: A little heart

Added this  Sally Hansen Blue Away Nail Colour
I love the idea of showcasing one nail, even in the smallest way. Since I am a beginner in doing designs on my nails I decided to just stick to adding one little heart on my ring finger. While this nail tutorial looks really simple, getting that little heart the way I wanted it to look was definitely harder than I imagined. With a little patience and a steady hand, I finally had my cute little heart after the 4th try. Yay!

Added a little heart using a toothpick dipped into Vernis Classique by Cherimoya- Neon Cherry to make my heart

Book: Hunger Games Trilogy

If you haven't heard of the Hunger Games, you must be living under a rock. Why do I say this? because I know I was. My sister, for months had been telling me how great the series was, but I was too busy with work and school to give it a second thought. Until one day my friend and I decided to go to the movies and had no idea what we wanted to watch. It was opening day of the Hunger Games so we decided sure lets go see it. Now let me explain how great this idea of ours turned out to be. It was 10pm, show started at 10:15 and we some how got tickets to see the movie on opening day. Not only that, but we didn't have to wait in line, and got the best seats in the movie theatre. I was just one of those days when the movie gods have lined everything up so that we could watch this movie. Here is the best part neither my friend or I knew what the Hunger Games was even about haha. As he tried to wikipedia the story I decided I didn't need a summary and just decided I was going to watch the movie. By the end of the movie I loved it so much I had to read the books.

The books were amazing and with every page I turned I needed to keep reading more and more. So much so that I read the second and third book in 5 days. I probably would have finished it faster if work hadn't gotten in my way. I'm sure you can get a ton of summaries of this book on google so I won't bore you with one. What you really need to do is put this trilogy on your reading list and just dive in!

 My Favourite Quotes:

"You've got about as much charm as a dead slug."- The Hunger Games

"For there to be betrayal, there would have to have been trust first."- The Hunger Games

"Aim higher in case you fall short."- Catching Fire

"You've got to go through it to get to the end of it."- Catching Fire

"They will either want to kill you, kiss you, or be you."- Mockingjay

"You love me. Real or not real?." "Real."- Mockingjay
